Poser

We wanted to make sure to capture this little phase on camera. Mason can often be found crawling a few feet then stopping for a photo op. He always crosses the leg over, then places his hand on his leg. I love it so much! But now he's learning to sit up so the pose is becoming harder to spot in these woods.

The Quilt

So here is my quilt that has sadly been in progress for many, many years. Since I was in high school. Wow. Not that I've been WORKING on it that long, mind you, but that's when it all started. I think this may be my first and last rag/patchwork quilt. But I guess we'll see.
I finally finished it on Friday, as my quilting friend Briana so kindly showed me how to bind the edges. I used my grandmother's Bernina 1230 to bind, which went SO QUICKLY compared to the rest of the quilt, which I hand stitched. I've worked on this so much recently that I'd probably be ok if I never have to see this quilt again...well, at least until Christmas : )

Project Completed

Also, my sewing buddy Briana and I went to the fabric store last week. Danger! Anyway, I just threw together these napkins, mostly to learn how to use my grandma's sewing machine I'm borrowing to finish off my quilt. My grandma and I then continued to practice the art of intricate napkin folding. I love the kimono.

The Day the Crib Moved Down (and Mason's other adventures)

Why? You might ask. How? You might think to yourself. Well, it was mainly because this (below) was starting to look like too much 'fun'. Stinker.Don't worry. We made sure to make it up to him with a very long, very riveting game of "Peek-a-Boo" after the occurrence. He didn't mind one bit after that. Except now he can't make any more attempts at bringing down the mobile. So sad.Mason has also discovered the simple joy of summer called corn on the cob. Makes for a bloody mess, if you ask me. But the MANY minutes (30+!!!) of entertainment and peace we gain makes it somehow worth it.In case you couldn't see exactly how destructive this activity is, please see below. And this is with already eaten ears of corn. I can't imagine what it would look like whole. I've already made a mental note to never again give dirty looks to parents who leave restaurants looking like a tsunami hit their table, though miraculously missing all the surrounding areas. It's all making so much more sense now...

Reunions and Birthdays

We went in to West Virginia for the Golden Family Reunion this past weekend. It's held at Brooks Hill Community Center, which is a converted old school building where the Golden siblings (including my grandmother) went to school back in the day. We have to drive to a small town in WV, then about another 40 minutes to get to the exact point of the middle of nowhere, and then we find ourselves at the reunion! Above are pictured the living siblings, the oldest at 96 years of age! Wow.
You can see the school in the background. They've added on to probably triple its size since it was a functioning school building. It was teeny! Also, we got to celebrate Tony's birthday with my family. Being summer and all, we did an ice cream cake. Apparently, however, people working in WV Dairy Queens cannot spell. Hence, "Happy 30th Tomy".Then, last night, on his actual birthday, I surprised Tony with a birthday fiesta with many of our closest friends. It was complete with a pinata and all! It was a very strong pinata, too. Even some of the big guys got to take a few swings at it. However, my favorite was Maggie with her gentle taps.

Thanks to all of our wonderful friends who were able to come and celebrate with us! (And embarrass Tony a little upon turning 30!!!)

And who doesn't love the beach?!

We were so grateful that my family invited us to go down to Jekyll Island, GA with them last week. Sure, it was a long drive, and the heat index hovered around 110 degrees the whole time, but it was a ton of fun! These living oak trees are so huge! Photo taken from Historic District. The adjacent island, St. Simons, has this cool lighthouse. We got to climb up to the top! It made me just a little claustrophobic.
Had to get a picture on the Rockefellers' old cottage. I'd love to have this place as my house in general, and it was just their vacation place! They used to have it all white, too- not these weird colors.
Congrats my good friend, Nica, for getting married! We are so happy for you and know you and Kyle will have a wonderful life together. I was so glad that we could make it for the sealing and reception. It was quite the party!
